Lots of visitors

We've really been having the visitors lately. We had a couple from the States to visit for a few days; she was here to visit a Rhodes scholar from her school and he was here to take pictures - in Morocco! We had Archbishop Foley Beach of ACNA and two other bishops to visit for a day. I put the Archbishop up in Lewis' room! We've had more tours, of course. There are more people walking around just looking at the house. Sometimes they peer in the window! Amazing.

We also had the Buntings from our home church in Chattanooga visit for a few days. Neither of us had ever been to Stratford and, since it's only an hour away, we went up to visit Shakespeare country.

We got a new scholar-in-residence today named Jacob. Sadly, our Italian, Maria, will be leaving tomorrow.

Needless to say, we're a bit tired, but thankful. We have two tours tomorrow, but thankfully our tour-guide, Myriam, will take care of them. The one in the afternoon is some officers from the Salvation Army!

Pubs

Several of you all have made encouraging comments about our checking out the pubs. For you, I'll list here the pubs we have been able to visit.

A few months ago, we visited the Talk House, which is in a small village just north of us; barely 10 minutes away. It's so nice inside and the food is reasonable and varied. We've been back a few times; getting to be a favourite.

Last week (12 Feb) we had a chance to run down to Winchester for the day and had supper at The Royal Oak, which claims to be the oldest pub in England. Had a grand time; just what a pub experience should be.

I've gotten a bit behind here: In December, we visited two pubs, The Victoria Arms and The Trout, one of C. S. Lewis' favourite hang-outs. The Victoria Arms is along the Cherwell River and the Trout along the Thames. Both first class.

2nd week here, Lamb and Flag. Nice pub, but don't get the "flat cider;" it's nasty.

Friday evening, 25th Oct., Sheila and I took a walk and visited two neighbourhood pubs, Chequers, and Masons Arms - just to see what they were like. Had some good cider at MA.

The first week of November, we visited The White Hart in Headington. It's across the street from St. Andrew's Church. We wanted to visit because it's a pub where Lewis often visited with Joy Gresham before they were married. We were glad we did - it is a good, proper pub.

24 Nov., we needed a place to take a visitor, so we ran over to The Six Bells, here in our neighbourhood. Friendly, clean place, good food - we'll be back!

A couple of weeks ago, we visited the Chequers pub on High St. in Oxf. centre. This is different from the one in our neighbourhood. It's a great place with an amazing history. Pricey, but good food and service.
